reversible quilted placemats

These quilted placemats were my first project with the new sewing machine, back before I started the quilt. The design comes from Sew, Mama, Sew...although I did solid black for one side and solid gray for the other (instead of piecing the back.) And, I did wavy horizontal quilting for all six placemats, since I thought the curved lines would not only be more forgiving as I learned to use my new machine, but also echo the organically shaped plates my friends had registered for (the placemats were a wedding gift). One of my sewing friends gave me a box filled with many spools of thread for my birthday, so I had fun using some of that thread for these placemats.
